A Santa Anna woman will spend decades behind bars for killing her on-and-off boyfriend after she threatened his life.
An Orange County judge handed 41-year-old Amy Lynn Black 15 years to life term in prison for the shooting death of 35-year-old Carlos Beltran Aguilar. Black was convicted of second-degree murder and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
The conviction stemmed from the fatal incident on Aug. 26, 2019, when officers responded to the Villa Motel on 11672 Beach Blvd after reports of a shooting. According to ALT 987, Black, who was selling methamphetamine from her hotel room, had been involved in a heated argument with the victim. Over the years, the duo has had a tumultuous relationship and had sent multiple angry text messages days prior to the fatal incident to friends complaining about Aguilar.
Black suspected the victim was having an affair with an ex-girlfriend the day before his demise. Then, Aguilar went to the defendant’s hotel room, where the duo got into a heated argument. Witnesses testified hearing Black threaten the victim and warning him she going to have him killed.
Later, Black sent a text to her drug supplier and co-defendant, Joel Brandon Martinez, indicating her desire to have Aquilar killed. Martinez missed the message the night before partying with his friends, but he arrived at the hotel room around 1.11 pm with two other co-defendants, Gilbert Timothy Ramirez and Brandon Garet Iseminger.
Upon arrival, Martinez stood on the bed, pointing a gun at the victim as he ordered Aguilar to leave the room. However, when the victim attempted to hug Black, Martinez shot him to death. Soon, the co-defendants fled the scene, while surveillance video captured Black stepping over the victim to chase after her dog.
“It’s a one-shot execution,” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Alexa Elliott, reported The Orange County Register.
Martinez was convicted of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possession of a gun by a felon, while Ramirez and Iseminger pleaded guilty. Ramirez was sentenced to 10 years and four months, while Iseminger is awaiting his sentence.
