A Toronto teen was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the double homicide that took place on April 15 in Riverdale, authorities say. Around 11 pm on April 15, officers responded to the intersection of Bain Avenue and Logan after reports of gunshots.
“We heard the bangs and it sounded like gunshots. And then I came downstairs, opened the back door and I heard someone screaming for help…by the time I got out here police were already here,” said a resident, according to CTV News.
Upon arrival, they found 18-year-old Quentin Caza and 20-year-old Jeremy McNeil suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries after he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The 17-year-old defendant appeared in court via video link at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Saturday. However, due to Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act, he remains unidentified.
The motive for the killing remains unclear as the investigation into the case is still ongoing.
