A California woman will spend at least 15 years in prison for the fatal botched injection in the buttocks of a Hollywood actress.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Sam Ohta sentenced 55-year-old Libby Adame to 15 years to life in prison for the death of 59-year-old Cindyana Santangelo. After a day of deliberation, Adame was found guilty and convicted by a jury of second-degree murder and practicing medicine without a certification, according to People.
In March, the defendant injected silicone into the Hollywood actress who had featured in Married ... With Children, ER, and CSI: Miami, in Santangelo’s buttocks. Soon, the victim experienced difficulty breathing as a result of a lack of oxygen in her lungs. This was due to the silicone oil, which had been transported from the injection site in her buttocks through her bloodstream. The fatal incident took place at the actress’s home in Malibu.
During the trial, Adame’s defense team claimed the botched procedure was carried out by someone else. However, in rebuttal, prosecutors presented the jury with correspondence between the two women as the defendant made arrangements to come and perform the procedure.
Additionally, Adame was a known entity to the Justice Department and law enforcement agencies. In 2019, the defendant and her daughter, Alicia Galaz, were convicted of involuntary manslaughter after she injected another woman, Karissa Rajpaul, 26, with silicone. As a result, Rajpul developed Embolism and died.
In 2024, Adame was sentenced to three years in prison and released due to time served.
Santangelo was described as a wife and mother at the time of her demise.
'We've had our whole lives turned upside down. I'll never have my best friend or wife again," said the victim’s husband, Frank Santangelo, reported Eye Witness News.
Adame’s defense lawyer filed a motion for a new trial, but the judge denied it.
