POPULAR EGYPTIAN TV HOST SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

Egyptian TV Host and social media influencer Sarah Khalifa was sentenced to death by hanging with ii other co-defendants for drug trafficking.

On Sep. 5, Khalifa was found guilty and convicted by a Cairo Criminal Court after she was accused of forming an organized criminal gang that specializes in importing substances used to manufacture narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of firearms without a license, reported CNN.

According to prosecutors, the 39-year-old Khalifa, who ran a cosmetic surgery clinic with over two million followers on Instagram, played a role in the importation of raw materials from abroad to manufacture synthetic drugs and in storing them in residential properties for distribution. The Egyptian authorities seized 750Kg of narcotics.

In April 2025, the defendant was arrested.

Prosecutors submitted testimony from 20 witnesses, video footage, and photographs that incriminated Khalifa and her co-defendants during the trial.

The sentence was approved by Egypt’s Grand Mufti, whose non-binding religious opinion was required by law in capital cases.

“Please listen to me, sir. My parents raised me well; they are people who pray, and I don’t need drug money,” stated Khalifa in tears during the sentencing hearing as she pleaded for the court’s mercy, reported Al Jazeera.

Khalifa and her co-defendants were also ordered to pay 500,000 Egyptian Pounds ($9,800)

In another case, the same court sentenced Khalifa to three years in prison for assaulting and filming her driver.
