A Florida woman will never walk free again after she killed her child’s father, who recently got shared custody of their daughter.
A Santa Rosa County judge handed 27-year-old Rachiel Moore a life term in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of 24-year-old Colby Vinson. Moore was found guilty by a jury and convicted of first-degree premeditated murder and tampering with evidence.
On March 19, 2023, officers found Vinson’s body lying next to his 4-year-old daughter, a week after a judge granted the victim shared custody with Moore. According to KTVL, the defendant had reached out to her former stepfather, 56-year-old Jason Curtis, regarding killing Vinson.
During the trial, authorities revealed a week-long text that showed Moore’s correspondence with Curtis, who lived in Alabama, requesting him to come down to Florida and assassinate Vinson. Furthermore, Moore provided Curtis with gas money and information about the victim’s whereabouts.
Vinson had just returned home after grocery shopping with his daughter on that fateful day, after being granted partial custody by a judge a week prior to his demise.
Later, authorities arrested Curtis, searched his car, and found a gun, a handwritten note with the victim’s physical description, address, and work address.
Curtis received a life sentence last year for his role in the murder plot.
